Our media product used loads of different conventions of other thriller films filmed and released. The conventions within setting, which we used, were: the typical characters (victim and murderer), themes, and props. The setting we used was a graveyard, which is a stereotypical convention of a thriller film. The typical characters in our film showed the typical props such as blood, weapons, gloves etc. our media product is similar to the film ‘Se7en’ as they also have cross cute during their opening sequence. There, cross cuts are are different objects shown which leads up to a murder.
This photo shows our use of a stereotypical victim of a young teenage girl:

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our media product represents particular social groups. Such as, the genre would appeal to people who like a thriller movie and who are into action. For example, it would appeal to many teenagers’ of the age 15+. It would also appeal to an audience who likes horror films aswell as the genres are very similar.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
An institution that might distribute my media product would be ‘New Line Cinema’. This is because they distributed the film ‘Se7en’ in which our product is similar to.

What would be the audience for your media production?
The audience for my media production is aimed at 15+. Due to the film being a thriller some gory scenes will appear, this is why the minimum age for this film would be a 15, as it wouldn’t be suitable for anybody younger, due to violent scenes.
How did you attract/address your audience?
We attracted a certain audience with our product. An audience that enjoy watching thrillers. Our product has a moving opening where an audience would be drawn to the movie by the opening, as it contains cross cutting back to the past. So straight away it is giving out a message of what the film is going to be a about, which will lead to a cliff hanger at the end of the opening sequence, which will make them want to watch the rest of the film to see what happens.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
During the process of making our product we have used a video camera, tri-pod, Apple Mac, and I-movie to edit the footage the group had filmed in order to put together our opening sequence. I have learnt how to edit on I-movie successfully and how to add different effects to the movie in order to make it eye-catching. I hadn’t really worked a video camera before; until I started to film my product and I grasped it quite well. I was use to an Apple Mac, as I have used them before so I knew where to find things etc.
