Editing

After filming all of our desired shots we then continued on to do the editing. When editing we started to split up the shots that we had done to smaller shots and also putting the shots in order of what shots we were going to use first in our opening sequence, to help us in editing. Then by looking at the many shots we limited down our shots to only the shots we needed to tell the story and also the shots which we all liked and thought would impact the most on the genre of a thriller. As we wanted shots that were clearly flashbacks we had to make it very clear to the audience about this, so in looking the effects in imovie we found and effect that changed shots to black and white which we decided would enable the audience to understand that they were shots of flashbacks. Another effect we used in editing were crossing cutting between flashbacks and the transitions we used between them to make sure that the shots ran smoothly. Once we had all of our shots we then started to decide on the music that we wanted to put into the opening sequence. We wanted to use music that was non -diegetic, for this we used a song by the Cinematic orchestra, this we thought fitted the atmosphere and mood we wanted to convey. Then by adding the titles where they find also as important.

A Day Of Filming-Jessica Hung Han Yun

On Wednesday 3rd February 2010, We started to film our very first part to our open sequences. Before we had even started filming we created a storyboard that consisted of about 24 shots, this would help us in getting ideas of what shots would look good in terms of our genre (thriller). For this day of filming we decided to film the shots for the flash backs in the bathroom. In doing this we had to ensure we had our storyboard, camera and also the tripod, these were the resources that we were using in filming. We used a varity of shots for the flashbacks, by starting with the simple shots of the props being set out, were the shots we sorted out first. Using the tripod enabled us to ensure that our shots were still and not moving making these shots more professional. Having our props were also essential eg: the blade, tablet, blood, glass of water ect. when shooting the shots at certain angles we decided to film it a number of times (the different shots of the props), this was to make sure that we had good shots that were precise so we had to film them a number of times to make sure these shots were correct and would help in creating the atmosphere for our opening sequences. As we had finished filming this (props) we then had to use a person for someone in the bath tub so for this we used sinead, using a teenage girl was important to our filming as it was a convention for a thriller . As we wanted to get all of her body in a shot however we could fit her in the whole of shot, so we decided to pan the camera in order to create more impact on the audience. We also used fake blood (food colouring) in order for the blood to look authentic we used red food colouring to make it look much more convincing. We shot this many times (again) to ensure that we had a varity of shots to play with when editing.
